To continue improving Loom, we have scheduled a downtime on Saturday, December 12th 2020 at 5AM ET / 10AM UTC, which should last for 5 hours. The planned maintenance work is required to scale our core database services.

What is the impact?

  • During the maintenance window, New Recordings, Website & API, Downloads & Trimming would be unavailable.

Why are we doing this?

  • To continue improving Loom and provide a delightful experience to our customers we will be upgrading our core Database.

What will the exact experience be for our viewers during the change?

  • For the duration of the planned downtime, the following will occur:

  • Viewers will see a friendly downtime page on all Loom Web App properties.

  • With limited functionality, Viewers will be able to view any existing Looms on web app just fine. Towards the end of the downtime Viewers may be unavailable to access these Loom for a few mins.

  • Loom app will respond with a 404 response to New Recordings, Website & API, Downloads & Trimming.

What will happen to videos being recorded (in-flight) when the downtime begins?

  • We will be making sure that any in-flight recordings are given enough time to finish while we are in the downtime period before we begin the upgrade work.
